Soccer Extreme : Multi-millionaire Coleen Rooney has snubbed private healthcare to have her baby at an NHS hospital, it emerged today.

She and Manchester United footballer husband Wayne’s first child, which is due in the next fortnight, will be born at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

It is in stark contrast to most WAGs who are best known for paying to give birth at London’s Portland hospital.

Victoria Beckham, Jamie Redknapp’s wife Louise and Frank Lampard’s ex-girlfriend Ellen Rives all had their babies there.

Mrs Rooney has also broken ranks with other celebrities by snubbing the customary magazine deals for pictures of the baby.

Insisting she wants her child to be kept out of the spotlight, she turned down a £1million offer from OK to pose with her husband and the latest addition to their family, the News of the World reported.

Her decision to give birth on the NHS has delighted staff at the specialist hospital, which claims to have the highest standards of maternity care.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: ‘The midwives here can’t wait to help her through the birth.

‘It is a tremendous fillip for all the dedicated and hard-working staff. They are really proud of LWH and overjoyed Coleen has opted to support them and the NHS.’

Mrs Rooney, 23, who is worth £8 million in her own right and was seen shopping yesterday in a new £100,000 Overfinch Range Rover, has in the past campaigned for the tax-payer funded health service.

She recently made a documentary featuring her adopted sister Rosie, who suffers from Rett Syndrome, to raise funds for NHS hospices.

Her choice of the top-rated hospital, just six miles from where she grew up at Croxteth, shows she’s kept her feet on the ground.

But, while most WAGs go private, others have also shown support for NHS.

Alex Curran and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard’s two daughters were born at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, which has a maximum three-star rating from the Healthcare Commission.

Mrs Rooney, whose child is due on October 24, her husband’s 24th birthday, is busy preparing their £3.5million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire for the big day.

The WAG, who is planning her own range of baby clothing, recently admitted she is really excited, saying: ‘Because you’re getting bigger, you can’t wait to meet the baby.’

A spokesman for Coleen declined to comment. (dailymail)
