Soccer Extreme : Cash-for-votes bribery allegations against two Fifa chiefs will NOT harm England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup, football's governing body said last night.
A British newspaper filmed Amos Adamu of Nigeria and Tahiti's Reynald Temarii allegedly asking for money for sports projects.
The pair are among 24 Fifa officials who will vote secretly in December on who will be the 2018 hosts.
The body's president Sepp Blatter has promised an "in-depth investigation" after Sunday Times reporters filmed the men while posing as lobbyists who want the World Cup in the US in 2022.
It was feared a scandal could anger the committee and turn them against England. But last night Fifa's Chuck Blazer said: "Just because an English newspaper has done this story I do not expect there to be an English backlash in the executive committee. If it was a Spanish paper would it damage their bid? I don't think so."
Last night Foreign Secretary William Hague said: "It's disturbing. These are serious allegations."
England's 2012 campaign has competition from Russia plus joint bids from Belgium-Holland and Spain-Portugal.
