Soccer Extreme : It's a sad day for Britain, as unconfirmed rumour has it that David and Victoria Beckham are finally putting their posh Hertfordshire pad up for sale and admitting that they really do live in California after-all (where Posh went for a star-studded dinner last night).Beckingham Palace was a benchmark for footballers' wives all over the country, who had a new epitome of class to aim for. So what will be on offer, and what will it cost for a slice of the Beckham life?
The house itself is actually pretty smart, as it's Grade II listed and sits in 24 acres of estate. It has been renovated by the couple, who bought it in 1999, and they made some interesting alterations.
Among the most striking are the three gazebos, each with a different theme - romantic, ornamental and lakeside - each of which cost £10,000. Then there's the petting zoo - which isn't going to be to everyone's taste. Other new additions include the swimming pools, recording studio and gym, which will appeal to any footballer and his model/singer/actress girlfriend.
Another big draw has to be the 4ft BBQ, which apparently cost £70,000.
With this kind of spending it's hardly surprising their accountant has recommended they work a bit harder to cut costs - the advice that kick-started plans to sell the property. So what's the damage?
The asking price has yet to be confirmed. However estimates have put the cost at anything up to £18 million - on initial glance, that's not a bad return given that they only paid £2.5 million for it in 1999. However, when you consider the the cost of those renovations has been put at about £18 million, you could consider it something of a poor investment for the couple. (walletpop)
