Soccer Extreme : Sickened Cheryl Cole finally dumped her love-rat hubby Ashley yesterday, telling him: "You've lied and lied. You disgust me."

Her parting words were: "I'll see you around."

X Factor judge Cheryl confirmed her three-and-a-half-year marriage to the serial cheat England footballer was over hours after she returned home from a trip to LA.

She finally snapped after explicit pictures of the Chelsea star ended up on a topless model's phone.

He said he did not send them. But the source said: "Cheryl's nobody's fool. She didn't believe a word.

"Then, as she suspected, more girls came forward."

Last night, Cheryl was nursing a broken heart alone in her plush home - aptly named Hurtmore House.

She shut herself away in the £4million mansion she used to share with Ashley, telling friends and even mum Joan she wanted no visitors.

A friend said: "She is absolutely devastated and exceedingly down.

"She's cancelled a week's worth of European promotion to try and sort her head out. Cheryl spends her life surrounded by people and, for once, she just wants time out."

The 26-year-old Girls Aloud singer arrived back in the UK from Los Angeles yesterday morning.

Soon after, her spokesman confirmed she had dumped Chelsea defender Ashley, who has allegedly bedded a string of women.

Cheryl was driven from Heathrow Airport to the now-empty marital home near Godalming, Surrey.

Earlier, while her flight was still in the air, injured Ashley hobbled from the house on crutches.

He was taken to the airport before jetting off to France for treatment on his broken ankle.

When she got home, Cheryl unpacked then had an emotional 25-minute phone chat with Joan, 49.

She left the house only once - after the fire brigade arrived when she inadvertently set off a smoke alarm while boiling the kettle for a cuppa.

The friend said: "Cheryl is upset, of course. But she is focused now on the future. She feels very let down, especially as this has been played out in public. The humiliation is hard to bear.

"But Cheryl is determined to knuckle down now and focus on her career.

"If nothing else, this gives her the opportunity to go and do exactly as she pleases and crack the States."

Ashley is said to have begged his wife not to end their marriage - despite four girls claiming he bedded them and a fifth insisting explicit pictures of the 29-year-old footballer were sent to her mobile phone.

The friend said: "Ashley was distraught, crying down the phone. He wanted his wife back and another chance. But it was too little, too late."

The X Factor beauty is said to have decided to dump Cole two weeks ago when the first allegations surfaced.

She did not believe his claims that someone else sent indecent pictures of him to topless model Sonia Wild.

Those close to Cheryl say she will never take Ashley back. She was particularly upset because she had been eager to start a family.

She recently said: "Family is definitely becoming a priority. I started to think more about having children when I met Ashley."

Yesterday, the singer's official website was swamped as fans expresed their sympathy.

X Factor boss Simon Cowell also contacted Geordie Cheryl offering his support - and his home in LA if she wanted omewhere to stay.

Cheryl and Ashley married in 2006. As a couple, they are thought to be worth £20million.

The end of the marriage was widely predicted. Cheryl forgave Ashley in 2008 after he was accused of cheating on her with a hairdresser - but she finally lost patience after he betrayed her with a string of other women.

Cheryl left for the States a week ago and was comforted in LA by hunky American dancer pal Derek Hough, 24, who spent 10 hours with her in her hotel room on Sunday night before leaving at 4.15am.

A close pal said: "Derek has been like a rock for Cheryl. He's told her that whatever the time, day or night, he's there for her.

"She really needs someone she can confide in and trust."

Last night, lawyer Mark Stephens said the Coles could be divorced soon after Easter if they start the ball rolling now.

He added: "By May or June this could all be over - unless one party is wanting to take the other to the cleaners.

"I can't believe they'd do that in circumstances where they are both independently wealthy. They'll go their separate ways discreetly."

Ashley is paid £100,000 a week by Chelsea and also has lucrative sponsorship deals.

A Chelsea spokesman said: "This is a private matter for Ashley, but the club continues to offer him and his family all the support it can in dealing with it."

They were meant to be the new Posh and Becks, the celebrity couple that everyone wanted to read about, know about and live like.

And the story of how they got together is almost identical to that of golden couple David and Victoria Beckham.

Cheryl was a stunningly beautiful member of girl group Girls Aloud and Ashley was a young, talented Arsenal footballer destined for the top.

In 2004, Ashley moved into the same apartment block where Girls Aloud were staying. He quickly asked a team-mate who knew Kimberley Walsh to get hold of Cheryl's number.

The relationship quickly flourished and Cheryl and Ashley soon seemed to be joined at the hip. They were regularly photographed out shopping or on nights on the town.

Ashley proposed to Cheryl in June 2005 on a holiday in Dubai and they headed on to Marbella to celebrate their engagement.

A year later, Cheryl was one of the WAGs causing a buzz at the World Cup.

She and Ashley tied the knot just weeks after England's quarter-final exit and the wedding was a truly showbiz affair.

Cheryl arrived in a carriage pulled by two white horses, there were stars aplenty and the couple had a million-pound deal with OK! magazine.

The ceremony itself was followed by a huge party in a marquee on the Wrotham Park Estate. But the romantic dream soon started to look tarnished.

The first suggestion that Ashley had been unfaithful hit the headlines just 18 months after the wedding. Reports claimed three women had had affairs with the footballer after he got together with Cheryl.

Ashley strongly denied the allegation. And after a brief spell without her wedding ring, Cheryl stood by her man.

They were spotted out together, looking relaxed and happy, just weeks after the scandal broke. But Cheryl did admit later that she had felt like thumping her husband.

Later that year Cheryl was named as Sharon Osbourne's replacement as a judge on X Factor and her popularity with the nation seemed to know no bounds.

In November 2009, she appeared on the show without her wedding ring two nights in a row, sparking more rumours that all was not well in camp Cole.

But aides later insisted the sparkler had clashed with her outfit. And weeks later, Cheryl seemed to be showing her commitment to her marriage with her debut performance of solo single Fight For This Love.

Days before the latest raft of allegations against Ashley, she insisted they had a love "worth fighting for".

But then the scale of her man's alleged cheating overwhelmed her, and the end finally came. (dailyrecord.co.uk)
