Soccer Extreme : Iker Casillas (pic Right) admitted that he was proud to have overtaken Andoni Zubizarreta to top the clean sheets' chart for Spain, after taking his tally of games without conceding a goal to 57 on Wednesday.The Real Madrid custodian set the incredible record in his 98th match for the national team and is now two games away from 100 matches and is closing in on another record.
Zubizarreta (pic down) is also Spain's record appearance holder, having played for la Furia Roja on no less than 126 occasions, and Casillas is pleased to be have had the chance to come close.
“I feel happy and proud every time I break a record and surpass footballers such as Zubizarreta, more so in a country like Spain where we have such quality goalkeepers," he was quoted as saying by EFE.“I’m aware I’m nearing 100 caps with the national team because the press keeps telling me every game I play.
"I don’t know when I will reach such a figure. It could be during a qualifying match, the centenary of Spain’s FA or the World Cup, but it’s going to be a special moment anyhow.
"I’m looking forward to being the third Spanish player to reach the mark, but I’m sure many of my team-mates will reach it too sooner or later.” (goal)
