Soccer Extreme : Inter announced they would build their own stadium, but the council insists the only plan is to “revitalise San Siro.”

Many clubs in Italy now see the way out of the credit crunch as more British-style stadiums with businesses that open even when there are no matches.

There were reports the Nerazzurri were already drawing up plans for a 60,000-seater similar to Arsenal’s Emirates venue.

“There is no dilemma in Milan,” said Alan Rizzi, the sports chief for the local council. “There will be just one stadium and it is San Siro.

“We are working with the clubs to reach a common path so we can revitalise San Siro. We are concentrated on a single objective and that is this existing stadium.”

Italy failed in its bid to host the 2012 European Championships and Rizzi sees the problem in their outdated arenas, which are all owned by the local councils and rented by clubs.

“Milan wishes to put itself forward as a candidate to host the Champions League Final and the 2016 European Championships, but as it stands today Italy cannot achieve that.

“We need stadiums that are open 24 hours a day.”

Juventus are the only club to so far have actually started building work on an English-style stadium, which will be built on the grounds of the old Delle Alpi. (football-italia)
