Soccer Extreme : Juventus signing Fabio Grosso has been given the number six jersey, that once belonged to the late legend Gaetano Scirea, who passed away 20 years ago tomorrow.The defender was part of the squad that won the World Cup in 1982 and made over 370 appearances for Juventus in Serie A. Grosso is just beginning his Bianconeri career at 31-years-old, and has also won a World Cup, playing a pivotal role in 2006.
"Wearing the No. 6 jersey at Juventus will be a great honour and privilege. Taking the number of Gaetano Scirea, a legend of Calcio and a man who is an example for all players even today, helps me feel part of an extraordinary piece of sporting history," said Grosso while on international duty, according to juventus.it.
"I hope to earn the trust of the club and repay the fans and my team-mates for the affection they have shown me."Meanwhile, the widow of Scirea, Mariella is certain that the left-back will be a success in Turin.
"I am sure Fabio will wear that shirt with the right personality on the field, with the commitment and fairplay that my husband was known for," she told the press.
