Soccer Extreme : Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed his pride at reaching a century of goals for the Red Devils.

The England international hit a brace at the DW Stadium this afternoon as the champions cruised to a 5-0 win over Wigan Athletic.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Rooney admitted he was pleased with his goals but also insisted there was much more still to come from him.

“Obviously I’m pleased to score 100 goals for a club like Manchester United," he explained.

"It’s something I’m proud of but it’s not something I’ve really thought of.

“I know there are still plenty of games and goals left in me and it’s something I’ll really look at when I’ve finished playing.”

The result was the perfect tonic for Sir Alex Ferguson after United’s shock defeat to Burnley in midweek, and Rooney insisted his side had proved their quality today.

“I’m delighted to score two goals,” he said.

“I’m just delighted we got the win today.

“It’s going well, obviously we had a disappointing game on Wednesday night.

"We all know we weren’t good enough and thankfully we’ve come here today and proved to everyone what a good team we are.”

Dimitar Berbatov, Nani and Michael Owen were also on the scoresheet for the Red Devils and Rooney admitted he was delighted to see Owen score his first United goal.

“It’s very important [to score],” he added.

“He’s a great goalscorer, it’s a great finish, great run and you see the bench, all the players, all the fans everyone was delighted, we’re really pleased for Michael.” (goal)
