After four years together the couple have announced their engagement, with model Abbey said to have burst into tears at the proposal.

A source told the Sun: 'Abbey was thrilled. She didn't have to think about it and said 'yes' immediately. She cried tears of joy and melted into his arms.

'It was such a happy, romantic and magical moment.'

The proposal came during a sun-kissed holiday in Sardinia, in which the two were pictured enjoying romantic walks, snorkelling and boat trips.

Abbey and Peter met at a friend's party at Liverpool bar Mosquito and have put down roots together.

Abbey is overseeing building work at their six-bedroom house, and says that while Peter isn't very domesticated she is a clean freak who likes her house 'perfect'.

But despite her new found fame since dating the premiership footballer who plays for Portsmouth, Abbey said her life hasn't really changed that much since meeting him.

She told Hello: 'I do the same things, go to the same places.

'I was a spoilt brat as a child, really, so I've never wanted for anything anyway. I'm not an extravagant person either. Apart from shoes: they're my downfall.' (dailymail)
