Soccer Extreme : The manager of a struggling Championship football team has ordered his bemused players to give up sex and 'live like monks' until they are safe from relegation. Southampton’s Dutch boss Mark Wotte is telling his stars not to be distracted by the opposite sex and concentrate fully on a run of five games in a fortnight.

The matches are crucial if Saints are to avoid dropping down into League One and Wotte is determined his players should not be tired out by nocturnal nookie.

He has even suggested his players send their wives or girlfriends away on holiday for two weeks so they are not tempted to get their leg over for 14 days.

Wotte’s strict new no-sex regime would seem to be working as Southampton’s five game run started with a home win over Cardiff on Saturday.

Saints are 22nd out of 24 in the division as they travel to face Ipswich at Portman Road tonight.

That is followed by a game at Birmingham and then back-to-back home matches against Derby and QPR.

Wotte, 48, said: "Hopefully we will be spared any injuries and everything will go well.

“The players have to really live like monks - they have to sleep in the kitchen and drink only water and very good other liquids and have proper food.

“I tell the players to send their wives to a resort and have a very good sleep. They must focus only on football.”

Wotte’s hopes such discipline becoming full time “Saints” rather than “Sinners” will help the team build on two home victories in a row.

Wotte said: "Confidence has grown and the boys are coming in with happy faces but I am always a little bit concerned after two wins that we have to get everybody back on their toes.”

Earlier this season Wotte warned his players they were playing so badly that they should stay at home at night to avoid being targeted in the town by disgruntled fans.

While second from bottom of the division he told his under-performing stars they risked getting into trouble if they hit the town.

He said:”I spoke to my players and told them they have responsibilities.

“I told them there is a big stamp on your forehead that says ’Southampton Football Club’ and a stamp on your nose that says ’23rd in the league.’”

His warning came after star striker Marek Saganowski turned up to training sporting a cut over his right eye.

I'm slightly concerned Wotte will take this too far if we lose the next match
