Soccer Extreme : The Manchester United footballer Gary Neville has risked the wrath of neighbours by having a shrubbery at his £7m mansion shaped into the letters 'MUFC’.

Most footballers like to hide away behind the huge fences that tend to surround their expensive mansions - but not Manchester United club captain Gary Neville.

The Red Devils and England full-back has had a huge hedge installed which spells out his club's initials: MUFC.

And although the topiary is still only in its infancy, when mature it is will be visible on Google Earth.

The imposing structure stands proudly outside the front gate of Neville's huge modern-built country pile in Bolton.

And even the most uninterested passer-by couldn't fail to notice that a footballer lives in the mansion.

The taste-free hedge may delight the 34-year-old but it isn't clear what his wife Emma Hadfield thinks of it.

However, having given birth to the couple's first child - daughter Molly - just two months ago she may have other things on her mind.

Who would live in a house like this? Gary Neville

At least Neville's commitment to his team can't be questioned. The player is rare among his peers for being a one-club man.

He joined Manchester United as an apprentice on leaving school in 1991, and captained the youth side to FA Youth Cup glory in his first season.

He has played for the club ever since, as captain since 2005, appearing for his side 376 times so far.

The personalised hedge isn't the first time the Neville family has been accused of a lapse of judgement.

Last year Gary's younger brother Phil put a huge Versace-themed mansion up for sale.

Highlights of the £4million pile included the golden gates, entwined with the initials P and J, which were also included in the carpet design.
